Since 1954, Cannes has been the summertime meeting place for advertising and brand professionals to connect, share ideas and celebrate the wider marketing industry. The Cannes Lions International Festival of Creativity attracts more than 15,000 people from more than 100 countries. This year, Tapad is thrilled to be part of the experience in a big way. Tapad is co-hosting several events throughout the week-long festival; details below.In the meantime, we asked the attending Tapad crew what they’re most looking forward to, what they’ve learned from years’ past and what will be in their luggage when they arrive. Here’s what they had to say:
David Sanderson, VP Creative Strategy & Operations: The most exciting part of Cannes for me are not the parties, or the yachts - I'm from FL and grew up near that stuff. The most exciting part for me is The Cannes Lions print showcase. Being around so many top-notch designs and layouts that use a medium where only a single "frame" with no animation has to convey so much information...it's absolutely remarkable. I find major inspiration from those singular visions and apply some of those concepts to Tapad's interactive creative output.
As for who I’d love to meet, Iggy Pop is at the top of my list. That dude played within industry lines, but definitely did his own thing inside them. His career has been remarkable. And he's still alive!
My luggage will include some sleeveless shirts and a hat. It's hot over there!Joanna McNeil, Global Agency and Brand Strategy: I am a first-timer to Cannes. I’ve been on the list to go throughout my agency life, but client needs forced me to cancel every time.
I’m most excited to see Anderson Cooper of course. He’s amazing. But I’m also super interested in seeing Aline Santos, Global SVP Brand Marketing for Unilever. She leads such a large and diverse team across the markets, I’m eager to hear her thoughts on how Unilever can continue to engage customers throughout the globe. I will also be able to reconnect with many of my former coworkers from my previous agencies.
I am hopeful to see the “The Pursuit of Impact,” Will Smith’s perspective on developing a global presence. I’m also eager to see the Lion Media Shortlist presentations to learn how data and cross-screen engagement are foundational to the idea-winning plans.
Jim Clark, SVP Global Sales: I have been to Cannes roughly five times. I usually stay in an un-airconditioned “Apart-Hotel” which is a room far away from the action and small enough that I’m able to touch all four walls at once while lying in bed, while hot as heck! This year I am very excited to be staying at the Marriott, which is perfectly located and is where I’ll have an executive meeting suite where we will be hosting people from AOL, Dentsu/Aegis, Amnet, Starcom and many more.
I am excited that we are sponsoring the Blanc party, but I must go shopping for a new outfit as a result. And I’m also looking forward to our co-sponsored Oracle Marketing Cloud rooftop party. It was very good last year – spectacular views and a powerful attendee list.
As with every Cannes year, I am excited about the close proximity to the industry’s most important decision makers - usually over a glass of rose’ - and I am particularly excited to attend the Omnicom Annalect Cannes party, as well as the Rubicon VIP lunch event. It’s nice to be recognized as an essential technology for one of the largest publisher platforms in the business.
This year we’ll have a fresh set of faces with our representatives from Telenor, and I’m looking forward to introducing them to our key clients.
